The Stromlo Leisure Centre is a state-of-the-art aquatic and recreation facility in the Molonglo Valley, delivered by Kane Constructions for the ACT Government under a design and construct contract. The 8,678m² centre includes an eight-lane FINA compliant 50m pool with moveable bulkhead, a 20m warm water program pool, leisure and toddlers pools, a splash park, gymnasium, crèche, café and a 280-space car park. It is one of Australia's first long-spanning mass timber buildings, with 47-metre Glulam rafters covering the full width of the pools and concourses.

CPS worked with Kane Constructions to pump, place and finish the concrete throughout the Stromlo Leisure Centre. The scope covered the pool shells, concourses, ground slabs and structural elements across the facility — aquatic work where levels, falls and surface quality are critical, since the concrete sets up the waterproofing, tiling and drainage that follow.

Variable ground conditions including uncontrolled fill demanded close attention to foundation and slab work, while the concrete structure also had to carry the loads and tolerances of the 47-metre Glulam roof system craned in above it. Working to a tight footprint shared with access roads, car parking and landscaped areas, CPS coordinated closely with Kane to keep the program moving, contributing to a landmark community facility for Canberra’s fastest-growing district.
