What CPS delivers, at what scale, and how.
Sectors served, coverage, contract values, workforce, plant, and the method used to control quality, programme and cost.
Company profile
Established 1990 in Canberra. Now operating in the Hunter.
CPS Concrete Group Pty Ltd is a family-owned structural concrete contractor. The head office is in Fyshwick, ACT, the plant yard is in Queanbeyan, NSW, and a depot in Newcastle services the Hunter. The company was established in 1990 and has operated continuously under the same ownership since.
CPS works as a specialist concrete contractor to head contractors and developers. The scope is structural concrete: pumping, placement and finishing.
Project experience
Delivered packages include five of Canberra’s tallest residential towers and the largest residential precinct in Canberra to date, alongside commercial structures, multi-level carparks, an operating airport terminal and a regional aquatic centre. Project values range up to $1 billion.
Contracting model
Pumping, placement and finishing are delivered by one business under one contract. On a repeating deck cycle that means a single point of responsibility for the pour rather than a split between trades. Pumping is also supplied on its own, where a head contractor holds its own concreting labour and needs the plant and operator.
Coverage
CPS operates from three locations. The Fyshwick office and the Queanbeyan yard together cover the Australian Capital Territory and the surrounding New South Wales districts — plant is maintained and dispatched from Queanbeyan, a few minutes across the border. The Newcastle depot covers the Hunter region, servicing head contractors and developers across the region with crews and plant based locally rather than travelling from the ACT.
The thirty-five-year project record is Canberra work. The Newcastle operation is newer, and carries the same crews, plant, systems and standards.
Work outside either region is undertaken where the programme allows for longer batch plant runs and a smaller local labour pool — the Batemans Bay Aquatic Centre on the NSW South Coast being one example.

Request documentationDelivery method
Quality, programme and cost.
The three constraints a concrete package is assessed against, and the controls applied to each.
01
Quality
Verified during the pour, not inspected after it.
Levels, set-out, cover and penetrations are checked before the first truck and monitored through placement, while there is still time to correct them. Finishes are delivered to the specified surface class and tolerance, and joint layout follows the structural drawings rather than the crew’s convenience.
- Pre-pour verification against the structural drawings
- Level and tolerance monitoring through placement
- Specified finishes: steel trowel, burnished, broom, exposed aggregate
- Curing and weather protection planned into the pour
02
Programme
Resourced to hold your programme, not just your next pour.
A concrete package is judged over months, not on one deck. CPS carries the crews and the fleet to run several structures at the same time and to absorb the days that move — weather, a late design change, a deck brought forward. Because the labour is directly employed and the plant is owned, capacity can be committed to a programme and held there, so one slipped pour does not compound into a lost cycle.
- Directly employed crews, scaled to run concurrent structures
- Owned fleet — pumping capacity is never queued behind another contractor
- Deck cycles held across multi-stage and multi-tower programmes
- Capacity to recover time when weather or design moves a pour
03
Budget
Priced on what the site allows, and held there.
Quotations are built from the drawings and the site’s real constraints, not from a rate per square metre. Where a design or sequence change affects cost, it is identified and quantified when it arises, so the final account reflects the tender.
- Scope priced from structural drawings and site constraints
- Buildability issues identified during tender review
- Variations quantified as they arise, not at final account
- Pumping, placement and finishing under one contract
Sectors
Structures CPS delivers into.
- Residential
- Multi-level apartment buildings and high-rise residential towers, placed floor on floor to a repeating deck cycle.
- Mixed-use
- Precincts combining commercial floor plates with residential levels above, including transfer structures and changing column grids.
- Commercial
- Office structures, multi-level carparks and terminal buildings, including work inside live, operating facilities.
- Civil & infrastructure
- Ground slabs, capping beams, pile caps, retaining and civil structures for infrastructure contractors.
- Community
- Aquatic centres, public facilities and water-retaining structures where durability governs the pour.
Workforce
Directly employed, not labour hire.
Crews, supervisors and operators are CPS employees. Continuity of personnel is what keeps the finish standard consistent across a tower rather than across a shift.

- Site supervision
- Every pour runs under a dedicated supervisor who attends the pre-pour meeting, sets the pour plan and remains on the deck for the duration of the placement.
- Concreters and finishers
- Directly employed concreters and finishers. Crew size is set against deck area and initial set time rather than against the tendered rate.
- Plant operators
- All boom pump and placing boom operators are CPS employees, ticketed and assessed as competent on the specific unit they operate.
- Workshop and maintenance
- Plant is maintained in-house against manufacturers’ schedules, with service history and certification records kept current for client plant registers.
Engagement
From tender documents to handover.
The sequence CPS follows on every package, and what the head contractor receives at each stage.
-
01
Tender review
Structural drawings, specification and programme reviewed against the site’s access constraints. Buildability issues and sequencing risks identified at this stage.
-
02
Proposal
A costed proposal covering scope, exclusions, plant selection and assumed programme. Where a programme is not achievable with the access available, that is stated in the proposal.
-
03
Pre-construction
SWMS, plant risk assessments, certification and operator competencies issued for the client’s systems. Set-up positions, outrigger loadings and services clearances confirmed.
-
04
Placement
Pour plan issued ahead of each placement. Levels and set-out verified pre-pour, monitored during placement, and recorded on completion.
-
05
Handover
Deck released to following trades in the condition the programme assumes. Where a non-conformance occurs it is closed out promptly — the point is to keep the trades behind us moving, not to hold a level while paperwork catches up.
Tender enquiries
Structural drawings, programme, pour dates and site access constraints are enough to price a package. Send them to tenders@cpscg.com.au, or use the enquiry form.
