Metropol is a landmark inner-city residential precinct at 81 Cooyong Street, built by Geocon on the City 7 site between the Canberra Centre and Glebe Park. Comprising three towers linked by large outdoor courtyards in a butterfly arrangement, Metropol comprises 552 spacious 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments along with ground floor retail. Residents have access to three rooftop gardens, two swimming pools, al fresco dining facilities, a kids play area, residents' kitchen and lounge, plus a level 8 rooftop penthouse with chef's kitchen and infinity pool available for exclusive use.
CPS worked with Geocon to pump, place and finish the concrete structure at Metropol — three towers rising simultaneously on a single city block. Our crews delivered the basement levels, ground floor retail and suspended slabs through every tower, with the angled facades and vertical offsets that give the buildings their street presence translating into complex edge conditions and setting out on almost every floor.
Rooftop gardens, pools and courtyard decks brought further demands, with falls, set-downs and load-bearing slabs required to suit the landscaping and waterproofing above. Working opposite the Canberra Centre with live traffic on Cooyong Street and Ainslie Avenue, CPS planned pump positions and pour windows around the city, holding a steady floor cycle across three fronts to help Geocon deliver 552 apartments in the heart of Canberra.
