Civic Quarter 1 is a premium commercial office tower at the gateway to Canberra's CBD, delivered by Construction Control for Amalgamated Property Group. Located between Northbourne Avenue and Mort Street and fronting Veterans Park, the building offers over 20,000m2 GFA across 13 storeys, with ground floor retail and three levels of basement parking. CQ1 was the first commercial office building in Canberra to achieve a triple rating, with 5.5 star NABERS Base Building Energy, WELL Core & Shell at Silver Level and 4-star Green Star Design and As Built, and took out both 2020 Project of the Year and Commercial Development over $50M at the Master Builders Excellence Awards.
CPS worked with Construction Control to pump, place and finish the concrete structure at Civic Quarter 1. Our crews delivered three levels of basement, the ground floor and eleven suspended office floors, holding a consistent floor cycle across a tall, tight CBD site.
With Northbourne Avenue, the light rail corridor and Mort Street on three sides, pump set-ups, truck movements and pour timing had to be planned around live traffic, light rail operations and pedestrian access, with much of the placing carried out early to limit disruption. CPS delivered the flat, high-tolerance slab finishes required for an A-grade commercial fit-out, contributing to a building that went on to win Project of the Year at the 2020 Master Builders Excellence Awards.
